Wiltshire Community Foundation is proud to announce a significant step in our commitment to tackling climate change by signing up to the Funder Commitment on Climate Change.

The Funder Commitment, which is hosted by the Association of Charitable Foundations, was launched in 2019 and is a framework to support funders to play their part in tackling the causes and impacts of climate change.

Signatories recognise the growing climate emergency is a serious risk to the pursuit of their charitable aims and acknowledge that all foundations can play a part in addressing the causes of climate change by managing and distributing resources in a way that considers and responds to this threat.

As a signatory we will be integrating climate considerations into key aspects of our work through the following six actions set out in the Funder Commitment:

  1. Educate and learn about climate change
  2. Commit resources to addressing the causes and impacts of climate change
  3. Integrate climate change into existing programmes, priorities and processes
  4. Consider climate change in investment strategies
  5. Decarbonise operations
  6. Report on progress

Joint Chief Executive Vicky Hickey said “The climate crisis is one of the biggest global challenges of the 21st Century; it affects us all.

"By signing the Funder Commitment on Climate Change, Wiltshire Community Foundation not only recognizes the urgency of the climate crisis but is committing to taking tangible actions that will make a difference in our communities and beyond. It is also a profound acknowledgment of our responsibility as a foundation to protect our planet for future generations.”

Over the coming months we will be working on our plan for integrating the six actions into our five-year strategy and day-to-day work. We will share details of this on our website.
